Smart P&ID authoring tools like AVEVA E3D or Hexagon SPF produce structured, database-backed drawings. But most engineering knowledge in the world is not in these formats — it is in PDF drawings, Excel datasheets, and Word procedures that pre-date or sit outside of these systems.
